DIY Natural Spring Cleaning Products

Common cleaning products can contain chemicals that release toxins that can actually make you sick. From coughs to asthma, there are even some cleaning products that contain carcinogens (i.e. cancer-causing chemicals). Here are a couple DIY products you can try at home.

Lavender Lemongrass Linen Spray

It’s perfect for refreshing bedding, towels and pet areas. Lavender and lemongrass are the ultimate “spa” combination to me, but you could use whatever combo brings you joy.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Glass or aluminum spray bottle

  • 20 drops lavender essential oil

  • 10 drops lemongrass essential oil

  • 2 cups distilled water

  • 2 ounces rubbing alcohol

Naturally Antibacterial Grapefruit All-Purpose Cleaner

This cleaner is amazing for almost every surface in your house (with the exception of marble and granite). Use it on your tub, kitchen counters, sinks and any other dirty surfaces.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Glass spray bottle

  • 2 cups distilled water

  • 2 tablespoons castile soap

  • 15 drops grapefruit essential oil

  • 15 drops tea tree essential oil

  • 5 drops spearmint essential oil

  1. In your spray bottle, add the castile soap and essential oils and give it a good swirl.

  2. Top off with distilled water

  3. Shake to combine

Just FYI * Distilled water lengthens the shelf life of your homemade cleaners. I prefer castile soap to other kinds of soap because it’s vegetable-based and extremely concentrated, so a little goes a long way. But in a pinch, you can also use some natural dish soap.
